
Adele Mara April 28, 1923 - May 7, 2010) was an American actress, singer and dancer who was a part of films during the 1940s and 1950s[2] as well as on television during the 1950s and 1960s. Under the professional name of Adele St. Mara, she signed a contract with Columbia Pictures[citation neededand began to work in the studio's "B" films and comedy shorts. This title was soon changed to Adele Mara. Mara began her career as a receptionist the Three Stooges movie I Can Hardly Wait. Mara as well as Leslie Brooks played the sisters of Rita Hayworth's character the Fred Astaire film You Were Never Lovelier. She plays the lead female part in Alias Boston Blackie (1942) in which she plays the sister of an wrongly accused and freed prisoner. When her Columbia contract lapsed and she was transferred to Republic Pictures, where she was a frequent guest in the studio's westerns and outdoor adventures. The actress appeared in The Vampire's Ghost, Wake of the Red Witch with John Wayne, Angels in Exile (leading ladies), Sands of Iwo Jima (John Wayne's love interest), California Passage (leading ladies) and Don Siegel's Count the Hours(supporting role).
